Spinach needs planted around november or december when cucmbers need planted around march or april..opposite season plants..the spinach will stand alone in the pot ok..the cucmbers in a pot will need to be set near a fence or some sort of device to act as a trellis..they will vine way outside of the pot..

You can grow spinach in a pot this time of year. I have a low flat pot of about three inches high. I sprinkled the seed broadcast and then thinned it some to make sure the plants had enough room to grow. They will grow just fine this time of year as long as it stays cool out and doesn’t freeze much below thirty two. Once it gets really really warm outside the plant isn’t going to grow much and will go to flower so you want to start them soon if not before this if you live in the south. Hope that helps a little bit. There are a few Spinach cultivars that will grow well into the summer and keep producing but I don’t think the quality is quite as good.

Cucumbers on the other had need warm temperatures to grow and are better grown in a hill to keep water from pooling around the base of the plant and rotting the stem. I have had success when growing these in a pot but it is much more difficult than in the ground. You need a good bit of room especially if the plant is the vining type. If you get a seed that is a bush cumcumber then you may have a bit better control of it. I haven’t gotten much out of mine but that hasn’t stopped me from trying. I may not have found the right cultivar for my area yet.
