Question by m p: when do i start planting my spring vegetable garden?
when do i plant purple hull peas? when do i plant tomatoes? for the spring?
can you give a specific date

Rule of thumb is two weeks after the last frost. This can be tricky since many times, there is a frost after the normal date. I lost two cherry trees last years after this happened. They had started blooming when the frost hit, and I though just the blooms were ruined, until the tree just died.

You need to wait until night time temps are consistently above 50 degress f.
Depending on where you live it could be late March or late April.
All vegetables like full sun the more the better…However they can handle a small amount of filtered light if you live in a hot zone area, usually the lower elevations of the southwest.
That depends on where you live due to the last frost date. Contact your extension office or do a search on the “last frost date” for your city and state if you dont know what zone you are in. You can also start them early indoors if you have a nice sunny window. If you do plant out and there is frost after your frost date just cover your crops.
Hi:
I agree with the other answers as far as waiting until the last frost is over. If your ground doesn’t freeze in the winter, you will be able to plant your vegetables earlier then if you ground is frozen. The key to a successful garden is to make sure the ground temperature is right for the vegetables you want to grow. I will link you to a page in the simple solutions section of my website that has some ground temperatures for some vegetables. This may help you.
Also, a very important step is to properly prepare you garden. Prepping is critical in any landscape project to ensure healthy plant specimens. I will link you to the plan – prep – plant page of the website. See if there is any tips that might help you.
I will also link you to the site map as this page has everything that is on the website. Browse through as there is an article on a vegetable, herb and flower combined garden. There are many other tips and techniques that may give you some more information. Good luck to you and your vegetable garden this year. Have a great day!
